Tanzania – The Serengeti – Part 1

We drove part of the Ngorongoro Crater area to get to the Serengeti and when we leave there, we will come back and stay at the Crater. It was an interesting drive, very steep, green and foggy.

We stopped at an interesting spot where we got out and stretched our legs and it was at the Cradle of Mankind, the Olduvai Gorge.

Then on to the Serengeti and the Serengeti Sopa Lodge, our home for three days.

It was an amazing place and we really enjoyed it. We had to be escorted to and from our cabins in the early mornings and evenings. The reason being is that this is one resort that is not fenced in, animals can come and go as they like. the day before we got there, they had Cape Buffalo wandering around the resort area. One evening we had one of the guards, they all carried weapons, take us back to our room. I said to him as we walked, what kind of animals might be here at night to bother/kill us? He flashed his flashlight to the left and there were about 20 rabbits sitting in the field eating hahahaha.

Also they had blue/black flags set at different spots all around the resort area. The colours are supposed to ward off tsetse flies and we didn’t see any so maybe they worked !

Some random photos of the area we stayed at.

We had some incredible lion experiences while at this park, read the next blog post to find out more !
