Well I suppose I should try to finish off my posts on 2024’s travels before we start traveling again in 2025.
We did 5 weeks in Southeast Asia, leaving in February and we did 5 weeks in Eastern Europe, that trip started in mid May. Coming up first is our trip to Southeast Asia. The trip to Southeast Asia consisted of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. The trip to Eastern Europe included Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania with some side trips to Netherlands and Turkey.
The next few posts (quite a few maybe?) will start in Thailand.
In February of 2024, Clint and I flew to Bangkok, Thailand to go on a five week trip of Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. We traveled with G Adventures, a tour company that I highly recommend and we had a fantastic time.
It was a long trip; to start, we drove two hours to get to the airport in Toronto and we had a 5 hour wait at the airport. Our flight wasn’t until midnight and we didn’t want to drive at night which is why we arrived there earlier than we should have. The flight from Toronto to Taipei, Taiwan was about 16 hours. We had a 3 hour layover there and then another 4 hour flight to Bangkok. So we left our house at 3:30 pm Sunday and arrived in Bangkok late afternoon Tuesday ! They are 12 hours ahead of us here so I guess we got there Tuesday morning, our time. Our tour didn’t start until Sunday so we had a few days to ourselves to experience the city. The one thing we like about G Adventures is they are all small group tours so we had no more than 16 people on our bus at any one time.
Bangkok is a large city, population 11,233,900. Hard to believe that’s one city! The whole country of Canada only has a population of 40 million. It’s a very affordable place, we paid about (in Canadian dollars) $9 for hour long foot massages, beer was $2 or less a bottle, a meal was maybe $3 and hotels and tuk tuks were also affordable.
Some photos of some of the places and our area around our hotel the first 2 days….

We really got to know our immediate neigbourhood where our hotel was located, which was a part of the city they call China Town. Lots of temples, lots of people and lots going on! We visited the Golden Buddha, Phra Maha Mondop, Shrine of Phra Buddha. We took a tuk tuk down to the Yot Phiman flower market, beautiful flowers and smells! We went to so many different spots, the Marble Temple, Grand Palace among others.

Bangkok is an interesting city and we really enjoyed it and we have so much more to see and do, stay tuned…
