Val Jalbert is about a 3 hour drive north of Quebec City. We were able to get a site in Alma at the Dam En Terre campground. It was an okay campground and very close to the Blueberry Trail bike Trail which was handy because we brought our bikes with us this trip. This is a 256 km trail in the heart of the Lac-Saint-Jean area. We did go biking once or twice while camping here but I was most excited to spend the day at Val Jalbert.

The first photo on this post is of the school that opened in 1907 (way up at the top!). The location of the Maligne waterfall was determined a perfect spot to build a pulp mill and the town of Val Jalbert was built up from there to a population of 950 people. They had stores, post office, school, butcher shop, hotel, bakery, flour mill and more.
Now it’s a fun and unique tourist attraction.

I’m going to keep my posts shorter, so next post, we head on the trolley and go to the Pulp Mill and take a cable car to the top of the mountain!
