When we got to Hungary, we docked near Kalocsa, which is a town in Bács-Kiskun county, located about 142 km south of Budapest. We drove about 40 minutes from the boat to get to Kalocsa and walked around the town. We saw the beautiful Assumption Cathedral (which was under construction), Archbishop’s Palace and a statue of Franz Liszt. We also did a bit of shopping, I am not a shopper but I wanted some Hungarian paprika and some soap. The soap was paprika soap which was interesting. I buy soaps whenever I can in different countries.
The first photo (above) and the photo below are two buildings I found interesting as we drove to Kalocsa.

After our stop there, we headed to Bakodpuszta Horse Ranch. We were greeted with wines and breads and then took our seats to watch the show. We saw the following: Puszta ten-in-hand, also known as Koch-ten, four in-hand, peasants triple, yoke of oxen and skills of the riders. I have no clue what that all means but basically it involved men, oxen and horses doing stuff lol. I guess it’s kind of like our Calgary Stampede. This kind of entertainment is not really my thing but I do like to see cultures and traditions in other parts of the world so, in that way, and because of that, I am accepting.

After that, it was back to the boat……….Below is actually us leaving the boat but I forgot to put this in the beginning of this post.

Back on the boat and we went down the river heading to Budapest. Our Emerald river cruise trip was ending the next morning. We went past Budapest at night time and the buildings were all lit up, it was spectacular. We stood on the top deck and I took quite a few photos. The one below I took of the Parliament buildings, absolutely beautiful.

The next morning we had to get off the boat and we were on our own. Here’s your eggs and toast, now git. We were off the boat before 10 and got a taxi to our hotel as we are staying in Budapest for 5 days on our own. It’s a beautiful city so stay tuned !
