South East Asia – Bangkok, Thailand – 2024 – Part 3

Today we headed out on a tour to go to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market & Train Market. These are two of the places I really wanted to see as I had researched them prior to our trip so they were high on our list of things to do/see.

We took a boat down the canal into the market area and then we were able to walk on either side of the canal, they had bridges spaced out that you could cross. What a madhouse of people ! They sold just about everything you can think of and there were people in their boats who were selling items to people in other boats or on the walkways alongside the water. It was pretty fantastic to be honest. Above photo is an old street dog who really caught my eye. He looks very sad and lonely but I was not allowed to bring him home.

After we finished at the Floating Market which we really enjoyed, we headed to the Train Market. If you haven’t heard of this, it’s wild. There is a track for the train and shops on either side of the track. Where we sat to watch the train go by is so close you could literally reach out and touch the train but don’t do that!

The shops all pull their awnings back and move wares back when they hear the train coming. The train does about 19 kms a hour and travels through here about 8 times a day. As soon as the train passes, the shop keepers put their awnings back out. I took a video and you can see towards the end how close we are sitting to the train. We were lucky to find a place to sit up front at 20 Baht per person, well worth the money. It was a great day. VIDEO BELOW

We got back to our hotel and I forgot to mention they had a rooftop pool with a bar area so that’s where we would congregate with others at the end of the day and today was no different. Later on that evening, we headed out for a walk.

The next day was our last day before we started our tour so we are headed to the Grand Palace and a few other places.

Later………….
