Costa Rica – Part One

I’m going to take a break from South East Asia for one post on Costa Rica, okay two posts. Clint and I went to Costa Rica in February for one week and it’s taken me this long to sort out, delete and edit my photos. I didn’t take a lot of camera equipment with me this trip, I had my Nikon camera and only took a 200mm lens and I used my IPhone. The resort we stayed at was about an hour drive outside of Liberia where the airport was located. Our resort, Riu Guanacaste, and one other, were set in a valley with the Pacific Ocean on one side and mountains framing the other 3 sides. There wasn’t much to do there but we did walk the beach a few times and walked over the other resort too. Clint and I went with one of our local radio stations, MIX97. The station does a Beach Party every year and they go somewhere different, this year was Costa Rica. So there was a huge group, 110 people, from the area I live and most mornings they set up their equipment and did their morning radio show from there.

Excursions off the resort were quite pricey and all in US dollars which makes it more expensive for us Canadians ! We did do one all day excursion and it cost quite a lot, a lot more than we wanted to pay but we did want to see some of the area as we hadn’t been to Costa Rica before. We drove about 2 hours to a Coffee/Chocolate Plantation and had a demonstration and got to try some coffee, cacao beans and they also gave us raw sugar cane. I did not care for the cacao or sugar cane but the coffee was good.

After that we went to the Parc Nacional Volcan Tenorio for a hike to a waterfalls. We walked about 2 miles (they use Imperial system unlike our Metric system) to a spot where, when we reached it, we had to descend down abut 250 steps to a waterfall. I think I went down a little over 200 steps and then just took my photos from there. There was a lot of people on the stairs and I think the best view was from a bit higher anyways. Of course we had to walk back up! It was about 37-38 Celsius but the I love the heat so I was good. We saw a couple of sloths but they were so high up in the trees. Our guide had a piece of equipment that allowed us to get photos with our IPhones. Of course, I only got the sloth’s hand lol

After our hike in the park, we stopped for lunch and then on to Slothland, yes that’s a thing. I wanted to see sloths so much, we don’t have them in Canada, maybe the zoo, but I really like them. So I saw one and he was so high up in the tree and I only had my Nikon with a 200mm lens so it is not a great photo at all.

This is getting long so I’m going to do a short-ish second post on Costa Rica to show the Monkey Bar, which is off the resort, and also the beach and some birds I photographed.

See you soon !
