We left for Vang Vieng in Laos and we drove high up in the mountains. We were so high up that we had to stop at a Service Station area and wait until the fog lifted. We couldn’t see anything ahead of us and the driver thought it prudent to stop and wait until it cleared up.

Not a lot of houses or people this way
Along the way
Monks don’t text and drive !
We finally made it to our homestay. What is that you may ask? Well we went to a small village, outside of Vang Vieng and we were each given a family to stay with. Clint and I were given to the family who owns house #8 and she walked us through the village and to their home. They had tables out front and snacks you could buy as well as fridges holding beer and other drinks. We sat with the family and had a beer and tried to talk to them through photos and sign language (so to speak) They had children and I showed them photos on my phone of our children, things like that. Here is our room and bathroom in their house.

Entrance to their home
We had a big room with 5 beds, we were the only ones there.
Our bathroom, You can shower and go to the toilet at the same time !
After a short visit, we had to meet back at our meetup location and we were taken for a walk through their village. But before we left, our family put skirts on Clint and I as part of their traditional costume. After our walk, the Chief was going to give us dinner, which was lovely, and then we danced!

Lots of stray dogs and puppies, this was outside our meeting area
Chris and Cindy, part of our group
Marco, Michael and Clint
Animal barn
Part of the village
We didn’t see a lot of people around

We had a great time dancing, we learned a couple of traditional dances and for our grand finale, we all did the Chicken Dance!
It was a great visit and when we woke up the next morning, we went back to our meetup place, community centre, and had breakfast before we left.
Next stop our hotel to drop off our bags and then a day of kayaking which I am excited about.
See you soon
