We camped just outside of Quebec City and one day we drove to Ile d’Orleans which is an island located downstream from Quebec City, in the estuary of the St. Lawrence River. There is a lot to do on this island, chocolate stores, pastry shops, wineries, breweries and the Maritime Museum. Above photo is one of the buildings on the property of the Maritime Museum. There was in Interpretation centre and a boat you could walk through as well as a shop to build rowboats, trails and more.
Below photo is a Fish Weir, used in the 1960’s-1970’s. It would be anchored to the bottom of the river using rocks and it was not for fish but for catching eels which was a huge source of income back then. They don’t do eel “fishing” anymore.

We went to a chocolate place but did not purchase anything.

Other places were Le Mitan pub and Micro Brewery was quite nice and we sat outside on the deck for lunch and a beer.

We went to a few wineries and I want to mention that the word Vignoble translates to Vineyard in English.
Vignoble de Mitan winery was okay, Clint bought some port there and a harvest wine. Picture below.

When we went to Vignoble St Petronnille they had a system where if you wanted a flight you purchased a card at the bar and then went to a machine where you could choose what wine you wanted, press a button and shazam! We go to Niagara Falls quite a bit and we have never seen this at any wineries there, it was different.

Interesting tasting bar!
Saint Pierre de Vignoble was a nice winery too but we didn’t care as much for their wines. Cassis Monna et Filles was also interesting although they don’t do tastings. They have a bar set up outside on their very large property and you can have a cocktail made with cassis. If you haven’t heard of cassis, it most commonly refers to a liqueur made from blackcurrants. It is sweet and dark coloured and is used in cocktails like Kir or desserts or a variety of other uses.
A couple of photos I took, random photos! I like churches and I love old buildings so these were two that I wanted to photograph.

I can’t remember the name of this church
So we are done in this area, spent a couple of days here and I was surprised how quickly my French language skills came back. But as I always say, as long as you can ask where a washroom is and where is the beer, it’s all good……
Next stop we’ll go to Val Jalbert which I loved visiting. See you soon.
