So now we are on our own in Budapest, a fabulous city. I highly recommend a trip to this place. It’s pretty walkable, for the most part, and lots to see. We did a walk by the Danube river and saw the shoes (pictured above and below) by the edge. There were actually a lot of shoes there, around 60 pairs I believe. In the winter of 1944/1945, many Jews were shot at the edge of the river so their bodies fell into the water. The shoes represent how the militiamen forced them to remove their shoes as their shoes could be used as a commodity. I sincerely do not understand humans at all.

We booked a tour of the Parliament buildings in Budapest and in my last post, I put a photo of the buildings at night, simply stunning.

Transit !
An unusual fountain in one of the town squares
Huge Market we went to, I do not like shopping but I do like markets
Ruins bar – The Ruin bars are in the site of the Jewish Quarter which became dilapidated in the years after WWII, after the deportation of 10,000s Jews. They were started around the year 2000 out of old abandoned warehouses, empty parking lots, historic buildings etc. Some of them are mazes and some are hard to find but they are all unique
A nice micro brewery we stopped at a couple of times
One day we hired a driver to take us to some wineries for the day, it was a great day as we got out of the city and saw new sights. We visited 3 wineries and then were taken to a restaurant for dinner, it was a great day. Some photos below of the wineries
