Amsterdam in the Spring – Part 1 – 2024

Canada Geese are everywhere….. we saw them in here in Amsterdam, we also saw them in Cambodia and several other countries. But don’t worry, we still have a ton of them in Canada lol.

So we spent a week in Amsterdam, we were told the city has 1 million people and over one million bicycles. We also went from about 35 Celsius down to 12 Celsius. Istanbul was beautiful and hot, Amsterdam damp and chilly. Good thing we bring a lot of layers when we travel.

Just as a piece of information, lots of the countries/cities we travel to, you must reserve spots to go into attractions/museums. Before we left Canada we had booked the Anne Frank House, RijksMuseum and Heineken experience. It poured rain all day the day we went to the RijksMuseum but it was worth it. We were there almost 3 hours wandering around looking at all the paintings and other art. I wanted to got to the Van Gogh museum and for some reason, we didn’t book it and of course it was sold out even past the day we left so we didn’t get in.

Below are some photos of the RijksMuseum

I was surprised at the Anne Frank house, I had a small house pictured in my head. It WAS a small house but it was ensconced in this huge modern building. Everyone was so very quiet as we walked through. It was unbelievable that so many people were hidden in these small spaces for such a long time. No photos were allowed but I have a photo of the outside and a photo of myself with a statue of Anne Frank. I remember as a kid in school learning about Anne Frank, she was a hero to a lot of young girls, back then anyways.

From a very solemn and sobering tour of Anne Franks house, we headed to our Heineken Brewery tour which I highly recommend. It also included a boat ride on the canals.

Below are a few random photos from the city of Amsterdam.

Next blog post……..more of Amsterdam ! See you soon
