A Drive to Hastings

I guess it was about 2 weeks ago that we decided to go on a day trip. We went north and went to Hastings, Keene, Bewedly and several other small towns. We also stopped at Squirrel Creek Conservation Area and had a nice hike. Just outside the park on the side of the road we spotted a few Cedar Wax Wings so of course I took way too many photos of one of them. I honestly didn’t see the other ones until this one took off and they all followed.

We also drove to Lang Pioneer Village, which was closed but Clint had not been here so he wanted to get an idea of what it was like. I had been here years ago with my son, when he was younger. I really like spots like this, old villages, forts etc, we will come back when it’s open.

We did a lot driving and a lot of back roads and spotted another mill called Hope Mill. Another lovely spot by the water

We stopped for lunch at a Pub on the Trent Severn Waterway called McGillicafeys Pub. A very nice spot and they had pretty good food and great service, typical bar food but it was better than average.

The Trent Severn Waterway is 386 km long and connects Lake Ontario and Georgian Bay. This is also the river that goes through the two cities where I live. That sounds strange, I don’t live in 2 cities but I live exactly halfway between them and the Trent River flows through the middle of both cities.

Our last stop on the way home was at Focal Brewery where we stopped and shared a Taster Tray or Flight or Sampler, whatever you call them. I usually call them a Taster Tray cause they are so tasty lol.

So that was our day and we hope to have many more like that. We are getting ready to go to Algonquin Park in a couple of weeks so I am really looking forward to that. It’s a lot less work looking for wildlife there than it is around my local area lol.

Have a great week…..
