I am going to interrupt my scheduled posts on our trip to Africa by sharing some photos I took yesterday. We went to the Stoco Lake Dog Sled Races (and Skiijoring). It was a beautiful sunny day, well cloudy a bit first thing in the morning, but then brightened right up. We wanted to see the skiijoring which started at 9 a.m. and we had about a 50 minute drive to get there so we left home about 730.
They had the aforementioned skiijoring and also 4 dog sled racing and 6 dog sled racing although some only had 3 dogs or 5 dogs, I guess the others were on winter vacay. They also had kids races in the afternoon but we left at noonish, my back had enough by that time, although we did stop in the lodge for a beer.
It was a lot of fun, if standing around for 3 hours straight can be fun…..lol
Last year they started the races on the lake but due to our not so cold/snowy Canadian winters anymore, the lake was a hazard so they started the race where they had the finish line last year. Then the return trail came back right alongside the start trail back to the finish trail. It was a much prettier view last year when they started on the lake. If you put dog sled races in the Search button to the right of my Blog page, you can see last years photos.
My photos of the racers coming back are not the best as we were shooting into the sun but Mother Nature always wins out !
So here are some photos…………………….

Stay tuned…………..

Wow, you did a fantastic job capturing the dogs, Susan! Those tongues flapping around are so funny! They certainly needed more snow, what they had was barely enough.

I know right? I was surprised they went ahead with them to be honest and it was so nice yesterday everything was melting. They are racing again today, but we didn’t go.
And yes, the dogs with their tongues flapping was pretty funny.!

The snowmobilers must be very sad, they wait all year for the snow!

Yup. We sold all our stuff years ago. Even then we really had to drive up north and it was too much hassle. We have skis and snowshoes too that we don’t get to use a lot

I suppose dog sled races are a valid reason to interrupt your awesome photos from Africa. These photos are incredible! I was thinking the same thing about the eyes before I read your comment. All wonderful – love where you started, with the waiting. Thank you for braving the cold and the standing! 👏🏻 🍻
