Christmasy Stuff !

At 66 I thought maybe I’m too old to sit on Santa’s lap? But he insisted and who am I to argue with Nick lol.

We have so many Christmas festivals, entertainments, you name it. There is always so much to do in our area. I will probably have another Christmasy Stuff post in 2-3 weeks.

I love Festival of Trees. Do you have them where you live? Every little community has one. So what happens? Business will supply a fully decorated tree or sometimes just gifts like BBQ’s or lawn chairs and then you can buy tickets, write you name/phone number on them and stick them into the box by whatever tree or item you hope to win. I do not win, sadly, but I still enjoy going. Our two favourite Festival of trees are at Farmtown park in Stirling and at Isaiah Tubbs Resort in The County (aka Prince Edward County) We are going to that one next weekend.

Farmtown is a wonderful place, a huge building and down either side (inside) are boardwalks and old timey stores and for the Festival they put the trees and other items down the middle on either side.

A week or two ago, on a Friday night, Stirling also has an outdoor Christmas market. I love going to that one too. This year it was raining as we drove there but as soon as we parked, it stopped ! It is all outside but also the downtown stores stay open late as well.

This afternoon we went to the Old Church. If you read my Blog, you know it is my favourite entertainment venue. They always have such great entertainment and at Christmas they go all out.

Today we went to see Heartlight Band, they were terrific and next week we are back to see Bassett band as well as the Weber Brothers, Seventh Town and a fantastic reading of Charles Dickens Christmas Carol. I will post about these events after we go to them!

I hope you all have tons of Christmas festivities where you live. I enjoy all the markets and festivals and it helps with the Christmas mood.

Stay safe everyone…….

  1. I like that festival atmosphere and especially how there is an old town and little shops. In the Detroit Historical Museum, they have it set up like an old town with shops … I should say it WAS like that. I’ve not been there since 9th grade on a field trip, so many, many moons ago.

I like that dressmaker’s form with the Christmas tree skirt too – very cool and clever. We have a Festival of Trees and I once volunteered to work there over Thanksgiving weekend. It was in Detroit at Cobo Hall. A co-worker always volunteered and they were short volunteers that year, so she asked me if I’d be willing to do it. I worked in the event’s gift store where you can purchase the small, decorated trees that people donate – they were everywhere! You could purchase the large, decorated trees too, but not until after the event was over. They had an old-fashioned cash register and we had used one of those older models at the diner where I worked through college – it was exhausting work and by Sunday night, I was ready to go back to my own job. 🙂 P.S. – I would pose with Santa too. Maybe next year when I’ll be 70!
