Algonquin Park in May, hmmm ! Other than day trips, we have never camped at the park in May. We always stay in June for 2-3 weeks. This year something different……..next year back to the old ways. The month of May had the benefit of no bugs…….i.e. blackflies but other than that, May sucked ! We stayed in Mew Lake campground on site 63 which is a water site right on the beach. It was an okay site but because this May trip was so windy probably not the choice to be on the water. Continue reading “Algonquin Park, May 2017”
Last night we went to the Belleville Club to listen to a terrific band. This band called Ghost Town Blues Band is from Memphis and they were asked to come and perform in this city. How lucky were we? These guys are great and I would go and see them perform again in a heartbeat! They played for almost 3 hours and I’m pretty sure they would have played all night, they seemed to truly enjoy what they were doing.
Maple in the County ! or as I like to call it – Maplelicious ! And by County, of course I mean, Prince Edward County. This event takes place every year Saturday/Sunday. We went Saturday morning; our first stop was Campbells Orchards . We usually buy our apples here in the fall of the year; but today we had raspberry chocolate scones and apple cinnamon muffins !
Then on to Walt’s Sugar Shack !! Clint took a photo of me with Maple Bear. Yes Maple Bear, not Honey……Hey I didn’t name him ! It was a kind of drizzly cool day, well cold for me ! But that didn’t stop the crowds of people.
So this was something quite interesting. A trip to the Model Railroad Club in Belleville. It was pretty awesome ! 200 feet of railroad track. They even had little miniature traffic lights that worked ! A tiny little campground with trailers and even one little trailer with an awning. I’m going to use the word “little” a lot here, so sorry about that!!
So this was a cold weekend ! We left at o’dark thirty Friday morning arriving at our motel at 9 a.m. Checked in and headed to the Park ! Of course we had to stop and purchase our passes for today and Saturday. Did our usual drive throughout the park stopping here and there. It was a cold day !
We have seen dozens and dozens of moose in Algonquin and other places. But we have had a few up close and personal interactions with moose. We are very cautious around them but I do love them. I think of them as one of the “Big Five” of Canada. Moose, bear, wolf, beaver and fox. At least those are my Big Five ! So onto our encounters…..
Algonquin Park is our favourite park and one of our most favourite place; if you haven’t been here, you need to go. We spend 2-7 weeks here every year; we will come for the day or stay for up to 3 weeks at a time. We have camped in different sites in the park with our trailer and we also have done back country camping…..without our trailer. lol
This guy was in our campsite June 2016 and he also followed us on a bike trail.
