We went to a village, Candirejo village where we were given lunch and it was a very good buffet lunch. The village ladies made it for us, we had Tempe chicken, satay, coconut soup, salad and other items. Then we went on a horse drawn cart, two people per cart and toured the village. It was really interesting listening to our guide. We stopped at a family’s farm where they make tempe, about 35 kg per day. We also saw how they use jackfruits and particularly how they use the root for making curry. Cassava was another family’s production where they make tapioca and bubble tea. They used to use the bark, peeled, for coconut soup but now they just use it to feed cows. 100 kg of cassava will make 30 grams of chips or crackers. After we were done at the farms we went to a building where they had an array of musical instruments that we were encouraged to try and play.

We went to a couple of temples, one was under construction. It was still beautiful though.

Candi Prambanan Temple Complex was beautiful, the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the mid 9th century during the Sanjaya and Mataram dynasties.

It was a big complex
Such a great area and I particularly loved going to the village and seeing how they make a living.
One more post for this area and then we moved on !
I don’t understand the religion, but the buildings are fantastic. How do they get these heavy rocks in position? 😳

I don’t know, they must have some kind of homemade crane or something. It’s pretty amazing.

I agree, it fascinates me how these were built.

All those architectural wonders – interesting how they lined up all the rocks, just as they are supposed to be built into the structure. The one photo that you entitled “Crackers/Chips made from Cassava” … as I looked at the photo, before reading the caption, I didn’t know what to make of it. 🙂 Your tour group is small enough that you got to know everyone well.

They tasted ok but a little dry. They put them out with meals quite a bit. I’m always fascinated with these very old structures and how they were built.

Yes, they built them big and strong and they stand the test of time, that’s for sure.
