Africa – Shaba National Reserve and Our Resort – Part Six

The resort was great, we loved this place.

The second day we were there we went back to Buffalo Springs Reserve and then in the afternoon we drove to Shaba National Reserve. We went to the spot where Joy Adamson lived. She looked after lion cubs and wrote the book called Born Free.

The night before we left they took us to an overlook for drinks and music and we could see the river below us. The same river that runs past our resort and rooms. We had our sundowners there, (drinks) and a great time chatting and taking photos. The sunset was beautiful and at one point I looked down to the river and there were dozens of monkeys running along the shore, it was like a scene from Planet of the Apes.

  1. What an incredible experience! The rugged and wild while also enjoying some lovely accommodations. The best of both worlds! I love all your photos of course and seeing you two offers the greatest smile. 😊

  2. I remember reading the “Born Free” books and a movie (maybe two?) by Joy Adamson back in the day and enjoyed them. Imagine sitting and watching an elephant stroll by or a parade of monkeys? How fun is that>!

    1. I’m pretty sure I saw the movie, Robert Redford was in. I would like to see it again though. I read the book also but don’t remember it too much either. It’s so great seeing the animals just strolling past!

      1. I would love to see what you saw. I remember that movie as well. Meryl Streep and Robert Redford – I remember him washing her hair. But the original movies and books were when I was very young and they may have been Disney movies.
