Spain – Barcelona – Part 3

We signed up for a tour which took us for an hour long bus trip outside Barcelona and then we took a train up the mountain to the Monastery.

It was very steep going up the mountain and once you get to the Monastery you can take a funicular and go up further.

There was a museum which showed an audiovisual presentation on the Monks. We toured the Monastery which is now a hotel and waited in a very long lineup to see the Black Madonna. The lineup moved pretty fast and they got everyone in and out in no time.

They took us to try some liquers that are made at the Monastery and they were, well I’ll just say different, I liked one !

It was a beautiful spot and a lot of history to this place, a lot of history not so great.

When we got back to the city, we stopped somewhere for a drink on the way home. I keep a journal but apparently not very well. One thing I noticed is that the servers do not bother you, if you need something or want your bill, just put your hand. We have been to places in Canada and the US and they come by every few minutes asking if everything is ok or do you need anything else and it’s normally as soon as you take a bite or a drink and you can’t answer anyways! I prefer the leave us alone attitude until there is a question/issue.

One more post on Barcelona! A city I would absolutely go back to. We have been to a few cities that I would do a repeat, Bucharest Romania, Budapest Hungary, Rome Italy to name a few.

See you soon !

  1. Very nice trip up to the monastery. I was on a funicular up a mountain once … you can’t be afraid of heights and the rickety noise it was making as we traveled at a very steep angle. It looks like the monastery was well worth the trip … lots to see and many others had the same idea to tour it.
