When you are in Barcelona, you have to visit the Basílica de la Sagrada Família, it’s stunning and also the largest unfinished Catholic church in the world.
We took a tour of this with a local company, some things are better with a tour. They are able to get you in places that may be booked up or may takes a long time in a lineup. We were probably at the Basilica about 3 hours maybe longer. The basilica was designed by Antoni Gaudí and construction began in 1882 and is still unfinished. There is 1 tower dedicated to the Virgin Mary over the apse; 12 Bell Towers representing the 12 apostles (4 on each facade); 4 domed buildings on the corners and 2 sacristies (Baptistery and Chapel of Penitence and Sacrement).

the carvings are beautiful

Some other places we went to – the oldest store in the city, the Basilica of Sants Martirs Sant Just i Pastor, Arc de Triomf, Olympic Village, the building where the Palau de la Música Catalana . We also stopped at a palace where Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand and we saw the place where the King and Queen met Christopher Columbus. So much to see !

That is some architecture – just gorgeous and imagine working on it all those years and it is still not finished. Elaborate carvings, exquisite inside. Amazing to see as was the other places you visited in Barcelona, including the vintage patisserie shop. I’ve never known anyone who traveled, as a tourist to Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.

You’ve already convinced me that I must visit here! 😃 The carvings on the church’s exterior are incredible, and I could linger for a long while at the Arc de Triomf. Thank you so much for the virtual escape!

So beautiful! It amazes me how they carved everything that long ago. It definitely sounds like a wonderful vacation.
