Eastern Europe in the Spring! – Brasov, Romania – 2024 (part 3)

Above photo is Council Square in Brasov. It was a beautiful town square.

I don’t think I posted too many photos, or any, of Council Square in Brasov so above are a few I took.

One day, while we were still in Brasov, we boarded our bus and left to explore two towns close by. We first stopped at Sighisoara, this was a unique town, a UNESCO site, and the origins go back to the Roman times. We walked around the cobblestone streets and some of us climbed up to the clock tower, I did not! After that, we climbed approximately 176 steps to go up to see a church and school that were built there. I can’t seem to get away from steps ! The school is still in use so those students have to go up those steps to get to the school. They are probably in good shape and don’t have time for their IPhones!

After our visit to this quite lovely town, we headed to Viscri Village. This was a very old village dating back to the 12th century, lots of quaint houses and cobblestoned streets. It is famous for visits that Prince Charles apparently took there and also for it’s white fortified church. To get up to the church, they had horse drawn wagons to take us. I always feel bad about that and also the horse pulling our wagon had her young foal with her and the foal just followed us the whole way.

We had a great day but it was long and tiring, of course that doesn’t usually stop us so when we got back to Brasov, we put our stuff in our room and headed back out. We ended up at the cute local bar we went to the first day and relaxed there.

I have to say, if you haven’t been to Romania and looking to travel somewhere off the beaten path, then you should check it out. It’s a beautiful country with lots of history and lots of things to see and do. We are enjoying our time here.

The next day we would head to Bucharest but first we would stop at Peles Castle.

See you soon ….

  1. All those steps! You’re right about the kids not using their phones … no walking with head bent down checking the phone with all those steps. I like the street with the umbrella decorations looking like a canopy over the street. Very nice, not only for history, but somewhat quaint as well, especially the winery and those cobblestone street. The foal is so cute. Poor mom needing to do the heavy work and the foal needing to trot behind her for lunch.
