As I mentioned in my previous post, I loved Val Jalbert, we had a great day there. We walked from the Visitor Centre to the Pulp mill and then took the Trolley back as it also gave us an audio tour of other areas.
We went into the mill which was a huge building. There was a lot to see, old equipment, a cafeteria and all sorts of information/displays. They also had a room that you went into and everyone stood in the centre and around the walkway that ran the perimeter of the room. They showed an audio/visual presentation by projecting figures portrayed on the walls speaking about the history of the town, it was very well done. Also in the room were parts of the actual mill, all very interesting.
I want to mention that the Falls are called the Ouiatchouan Falls and are 72 metres high (236 feet) and the word means “Clear-water river” in the Innu language. There is also a second waterfalls, Maligne Falls which is a smaller waterfall located just above Ouiatchouan Falls. You can access it by taking the cable car to the top and climbing a few more steps
It was quite the day, it rained all day and then after we reached the top of the mountain on a cable car the Hydro went out. Hydro = Electricity. We have Ontario Hydro where we live, they supply our electricity so most Ontarians, no matter where we go, just say Hydro. So, no cable cars were working so we had to walk down the mountain, 764 steps lol. It was actually fine, we just had to be careful as it was still raining and everything was wet. We had taken the cable car to the top and then walked down to a halfway spot to catch a cable car so it wasn’t all bad.
Quick fact: Ouiatchouan Falls is taller than Niagara Falls.
After that, there was another spot you could walk to, another 64 steps up to a lookout with a glass floor.

Me too ! But I am glad we weren’t on this one when the power went out lol But we did walk a lot of stairs to get off the mountain.

The ski lift did break down on me and my friend back in the early 1980s, the ski patrol had to let us down with a rope and chair tossed over the cable. Fun days! 😂

This is picturesque (even in the rain) and wouldn’t you know it, Mother Nature was playing spoiler with all the rain. But you two made the best of it – you can see how soaked that boardwalk is. Yes “Hydro”, a word I remember from my years of living in Canada and I think my mom continued to say that word (and other Canadian words/phrases) long after we moved here. That was a steep trip down and in the rain no less. You and Clint are ready for any adventure!

Yes you know me, always scared I’m going to fall so I walk slowwwllly lol But the rain can make for some very cool pictures too!

Yes, I know what you mean. I was shuffling along to run the car this morning … black ice, and it was garbage day, so traipsing back and forth and to the garage to run the car. Yes, rain makes for cool pictures – how do you protect the camera, do you have a cover for it?
