Eastern Canada, Here we Come – Baie Comeau to Labrador City – 2025 – Part 11

We left to do the last stretch into Labrador on Hwy 389 or the Labrador Coastal Drive. Approximately 580 kms which we would do in one day because you have to. On this road – no cell service, 2 gas stations paying $2.46 a litre, no houses, no stores, no motels, no campgrounds, no shoulders on the sides of the roads, LOTS of dust and a lot of extremely bumpy washboard roads. We did approximately 175 kms on dirt roads and over 400 kms on paved roads. The dirt roads were horrible. We were stopped at one spot by a trucker going the other way to tell us to watch out ahead as there were two motorcyclists and one took a spill. As there are no shoulders to pull off to, he was basically laying on the road. We stopped to ask if they needed help but they said no the trucker that stopped us was driving ahead until he had cell service to call for help. Why did I want to go to Labrador ? Because I have never been there and I’m an idiot lol.

We left Baie Comeau about 9 a.m. and got into Labrador City 10 hours later at about 7 p.m. Not much else to say, it was a very long day. Here are a few photos of our road trip.

Finally we made it to Labrador! Stay tuned….

    1. haha yes it was nicer on the dirt road but we missed all the nice summer weather. Now today, it’s raining hard here , I wish winter would make up it’s mind. You must be having the same weather too.

      1. Yes, that was a shame enduring all the rainy weather in such a normally picturesque place. We’ve had a real potpourri of weather this week. Tuesday: freezing rain, then rain; Wednesday: rain off and on; Thursday: freezing fog til noon and today rain and wind with peak gusts at 67 mph (91 kmh) – yikes! I got a walk in yesterday afternoon and tomorrow mid-day we get freezing rain, then snow. This morning it was 60 degrees, 30 degrees colder tomorrow morning. We actually broke a longstanding record – well yay for that, but it was like a monsoon out there! 🙂

      2. Same here – I got out today and walked as it was dry and not windy for a change, but it will be freezing rain tonight, so likely tomorrow is a “no go” as well. Spring can’t come soon enough this year.

  1. You just have a wonderful sense of adventure. That’s what it is! 👍🏻The dirt roads remind me of traveling through Mexico, without the trees. 😄 Thank you for the wonderful virtual escape. Beautiful blue skies and water. 🩵 Thank you so much for sharing your adventurous spirit!
