Eastern Canada, Here we Come – Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland -2025- Part 1

What is that above you may ask…….It’s a Giant Squid eyeball from the Giant Squid they found in 1878. How ’bout that? There is a museum dedicated to the Giant Squid in Glovers Harbour, a day trip we went on while staying in Grand Falls- Windsor.

We went to a few really interesting spots in this area. Obviously the Giant Squid Interpretation Centre as well as a Glove museum, Flying Boat museum and a Salmon Interpretation Centre.

The Flying Boat Museum is in Botwood and has a piece of history that we didn’t know about. It showcases the story of Canada’s aviation heritage highlighting onthe period from 1920 – 1945. The eyes of the world were on Botwood because of ties to the first transatlantic flights (Pan American Airways for refueling stops) and the renowned flying boats. It also served as an RCAF Seaplane base for anti-submarine patrols, playing a significant role in the strategic defense of Newfoundland’s east coast. It was known for it’s deep harbour but in time more efficient land based aircraft came to be and thus ended the significance of Botwood.

The Canadian Glove Museum was another spot that we enjoyed visiting, located in Point Leamington. They have a room with all different types of gloves and for all different types of services. After we were done looking around the museum, the lady took us on a tour of the factory. It was surprisingly interesting but then Clint and I both like learning new things and seeing how items are made. They also had gloves worn by legends like Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Elvis Presley. We weren’t allowed to take photos in the factory but trust me, it was quite something!

Well I think that’s enough for this post but there will be more! We did quite a few enjoyable adventures while in this area.

Until next time…
