Eastern Canada, Here we Come – Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland -2025- Part 2

The Salmon Interpretation Centre was another enjoyable spot. You park your car and then walk down to the Gift shop (there’s always a gift shop isn’t there?) and then further to the Visitor Centre and you can wander the outside area to see the salmon. It was $17 total for us both to go in and we were there quite a while. They had a short movie to watch and we were told there are 31 Ladders for the salmon to climb up on to lay their egges.

I forgot to mention, when we were here, we stayed at Sanger Memorial RV Park and it was a great spot to stay and only $38 for full hookup.

Some other places we went to included Leading Tickles, Point of Bay, Cottrells Cove and Fortune Harbour. We drove by a lake and there were hundreds of these little nets/buoys. We asked and they were oyster traps and the boxes they are stored in. We also went to a terrific dinner theatre in Grand Falls-Windsor called the Queen Street Dinner Theatre. We really enjoyed it and it was called Takin’ Care of Business which showcased all Canadian singers and groups. I think there was at least a dozen people in the band/singers and they were all very talented. They do have different entertainment though, for example Solid Gold Country and others. Corduroy Brook Nature Centre was another spot we enjoyed, we went for a long hike there and it’s worth spending time there if you are in the area.

This was a great area with lots to do, highly recommend it.

Next stop…………Twillingate………always has been one of my favourites in Newfoundland.

  1. This sounds like a lively town as I know some in the past were sleepy towns. My favorite picture here was the boat in Leading Tickles harbor – very picturesque. At least you did not have rain when you visited here, but you had lots of inside spots to visit anyway.

      1. I think I was more fearless when I was younger. On a Panama Canal Cruise, a day trip was the San Blas Islands and it was a shallow shoreline so we took a tender to shore. The tender was okay, but the docking area was kind of sketchy. I don’t know how to swim and remember thinking “I hope I don’t fall in – my camera equipment will be ruined!” Not thinking so much about my life. 🙂

      2. Well, we are a pair! Yes, I picture an arm hefting a camera bag or camera out of the water, like the time I walked into a snow drift and forgot it was a slope … I had to figure out how to get up and keep the camera dry!

      3. I felt kind of stupid afterward and a fisherman was there and heard me yell out when I fell. He said “here, let me help you get up” but he was young and I had my pride and said “no thank you, I can do it.” He was busy fishing and not paying attention to me and how long it took me to get up without getting the camera wet. 🙂

      4. I hate anyone seeing me fall or trip ! I feel so dumb. Sometimes even if I am hurt, I jump up really fast and look around to see if anyone is looking and if not, then I check for injuries lol

      5. I do that too! How is your knee doing? Mine does not hurt like it did in September, but unfortunately, since I’ve not walked as much since we’ve had snow/ice, etc. so really since mid-November, every time I walk I feel like it feels weak. I have to get more miles in and decide if I might have to wrap it with an Ace bandage until I’ve walked more. The piddling amounts I’ve walked since late Fall has not strengthened it.

      6. My knee is better but I still cannot kneel on it. I guess I really wrecked it when I fell. I haven’t been walking either just using my bike and treadmill in the basement and doing workouts. As I get older, I just don’t enjoy walking outside in the cold/snow/ice/wind lol So hopefully spring comes soon and we can both get back to being outside more.

      7. I’m sorry to hear that and I get the feeling my knee will buckle – maybe it’s my imagination … when I worked from home from 2011 to 2024, I’d walk in the morning before I started work at 11:30 a.m. So sometimes I had to wait until the weekend mid-day to walk when the sun made the ice soft or melted it. Now I can go any time of the day since I retired and the temps/walking conditions are not safe even in the afternoon. Who wants to fall and break a limb at our age?
