Eastern Canada, Here we Come – Stephenville, Newfoundland -2025- Part 1

Well I have been waiting all my life to see two squirrels boxing and there they are in all their glory. Wearing little beer caps on their heads and tiny boxing gloves. More on the squirrels below….

After we left Cornerbrook, we headed to Stephenville and camped at Zenzville RV Park which I believe was only $35 a night. A really nice campground and we had a nice site. After we set up, we went for a drive and didn’t get too far down the road when we spotted the Secret Cove Brewery so of course, in we went. This is where the 2 squirrels live and fight, stuffed squirrels of course.

This is a nice area and we headed out on some drives, one being the French Ancestors Route and it was a nice sunny day with a high of 22 Celsius. We drove past the big Cemex plant which is an aggregates quarry and port operation located in Lower Cove on the Port au Port Peninsula. It is not a traditional cement or ready-mix plant but it sure is big. We also went to the
Stephenville Regional Museum/Stephenville Historical Society which was pretty interesting, lots of history and “historical items”. You know some items, I may or may not still have in my house lol
Other spots we went to were Boutte du Cap, Marches Point and Le Grand Terre, mainland.

We stayed here 3 nights and we also took a trip to Burgeo where some of Clint’s relatives lived, years ago. That’s in the next post !

  1. There’s lots of really blue water here, especially at Marches Pointe where I like all the stones in the foreground and at Boutte du Cap with the whitecaps and turquoise water . Finally, you had skies that were brighter and sunny, so you ditched the rain for a few days anyway. Marches Cove is pretty. The Secret Cove Brewery had some fun-looking ales per the signs on the blackboard.

      1. Oh yes … “give me a peanut now or I’ll take it myself!” I was talking to another walker at the Park once when my favorite squirrel, Parker, tried leaping up to reach the bag of peanuts and gave up and literally scaled my leg to reach the bag instead. Good thing I was wearing sweatpants!

  2. Stunning views at Marches Point. I got a kick out of the stuffed squirrels boxing. One year we went to a convention center home show and they set up a large blow up pool inside the building. Then they put a real squirrel on a fake small surf board that the squirrel was trained to sit still on. If I remember right they used a small toy remote controlled motorboat pulling the surf board with the squirrel on it, it was hilarious.

    1. Ah that would have been cute to see! I have seen dogs on surf boards and they really seem to enjoy it. I wonder who thought to dress the squirrels and do a boxing theme, very creative!
