Algonquin Park – Fall 2024 – Part 5 (Let’s take a little break from Spain and Portugal)

We like to go to Whitney, a small town outside the East Park Gate. There are some very pretty spots in and around the town.

We also went 4 or 5 different times to Bongopix Tavern in Whitney. What a great place. They have terrific coffee, alcoholic drinks as well as Panini sandwiches, chili and a few other items. Live entertainment is on a couple of nights a week and it’s a really enjoyable time. Kudos to Bongo and Andrea for having such a welcoming venue. We really enjoyed our time there.

If you drive past Whitney, keeping on hwy 60, and head to the very small village of Madawaska, you can follow the Major Lake Road (paved, then gravel) northwest for 26 Kms to the access point on the Opeongo River between Farm and Crotch Lakes. We have been here years ago on a back country canoe trip, actually we have been to this access point a few times, it’s a nice drive. We then back tracked a bit and headed to Billy Lake.

So………let’s see, how about 3 more posts and then back to Europe !

Alrighty then, next stop Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve.

  1. Wow, those trails make me want to hop on the quad and go for a ride! Very beautiful country, Susan. The tavern looks inviting too, it reminds me of bars/pubs/taverns in Michigan’s lower peninsula near the top where the Mackinaw Bridge is. Snowmobiling days! Thanks for sharing and have a great new week!
