Algonquin Park – Fall 2024 – Part 7 (Let’s take a little break from Spain and Portugal)

I’m almost at the end of the Algonquin posts, I loved looking at all my photos again and reliving the moments!

We do a lot of canoeing and these are all photos that I took from the front of our canoe. One day we spotted a heron who was fishing for his dinner. We saw him catch a fair sized fish and I took photos the whole time he was getting it ready to eat. When the prey is too large to be swallowed immediately, or has dangerous spines, the heron will repeatedly drop the fish into the water and shake violently with its beak until the fish is dazed/dead or the spines snap.

I love seeing feathers on the water so there are a few feather photos that I took and ducks and another heron. Enjoy….

I hope you enjoyed my photos, I have so many, it was difficult to pick just a few to show people.

One more post on Algonquin Park coming up !

  1. Great photos Susan – I especially like the reflections of the ducks and the feathers on the water. Wow to the photos of the heron and its fish. It seems impossible that they swallow it whole, but I never thought about having a fish with spines and needing to shake them off. I recall a fellow blogger showing a heron with a huge fish like that and she got photos of the fish as it was being swallowed, as the fish was still very much alive and moving around as it travelled down that long neck!
