Eastern Canada, Here we Come – L’Anse-au-Clair, Labrador -2025- Part 7

This is our last stop for 3 nights before we catch the ferry to Newfoundland. For info, the word Labrador comes from a Portuguese explorer named Joao Fernandes “Lavrador”. (Labrador meaning landowner or farmer) He explored this region around 1500 eventually naming the land Labrador, as well as giving the name Labrador to a popular dog breed.

We are now a 6 km drive from where we are in Labrador to Blanc Sablon, Quebec where we will catch our ferry.

We stayed at Northern Lights campground (campground is a term I would use loosely in this instance) located in L’Anse au Clair, (population around 220). We did drive to another campground and also to a Municipal campground. These aren’t campgrounds like what one would think are campgrounds but they will do !

We did a lot of driving and touring around while here it did rain a lot and it was chilly. We went to Vieux-Fort and Riviere Saint Paul one afternoon. Here some photos of those areas.

Almost done in Labrador! Next post we drive to another Basque Whaling site in Middle Bay……….

  1. The scenery here is nice, those rolling waves especially in the one photo and the rapids/waterfall. They have a lot of large rocks I have noticed. The first campground … well at least they had a privacy fence and a picnic table as amenities too. 🙂

    1. I love rocks for some reason. And yes there are a lot along this shoreline! Yes we did have a little fence and table. We have stayed in worse spots but we don’t mind. At least it’s a safe place !

      1. I like the look of boulders on the shoreline – there were a lot of rocks in your travels. Safety is number 1, although it looks like a peaceful venue and crime would not be a concern there.

  2. So much to enjoy! Thank you for sharing this beautiful collection. The church in b & w is a lovely effect, and the barrel photo is priceless! 😃👍🏻 And yes to the boats in the patch of wildflower. 🌼

    1. I should have brought Trum in to have his photos taken with the barrel of monkeys. I literally just thought of that as I read your comment ! I’ll have to prepare better in the future. I also like my photo of the church in B&W !

  3. Oh how I love Jungle Jim’s!!!! The closest one is 4 hours away. We saw a segment on Food Network about it. They showcased the bathroom as it was decorated so cleverly. I just had to see it and when we got there I was excited by the size and layout of the place that I forgot to go inside the bathroom. It may be because the door looked like a port-a-pot door! We took 2 large coolers and I bought everything we can never get where we live. Turtle, camel, reindeer sausage and so on. We didn’t even make it to the grocery store on the other side. We were about 1/2 hour gone when I said I had to use the bathroom. I looked at my husband and we both said “The bathroom!!!” Anyhow, back to your trip. Cute picture with a barrel of monkeys, I love the little church and your campground was maintained nicely.

    1. We had never heard of Jungle Jim’s before but we really liked it. I don’t think I used the bathroom either but I should remember that at other unique places because quite often the bathroom is fun to see to. I mentioned to Michele, I should have taken Trum in to have his photo taken with the monkeys !
