Eastern Canada, Here we Come – Baie Verte, Newfoundland -2025- Part 1

I do love the colour purple but maybe the purple house is a bit much ?

We stayed at Flatwater RV Park in this area, $45 a night. The people were really nice and there were a lot of nice permanent sites along the water.

We drove to Baie Verte for dinner and on the way we saw a moose but he was very skittish. We asked some locals the nicest spots in the area and were told La Scie and Fleur de Lys so we went there first. It was okay but nothing spectacular in our opinion but we did go to La Scie the next day and it was pretty spectacular. Below are some views from the Fleur de Lys area.

La Scie had a beautiful lookout and it would have been more beautiful if it wasn’t rainy and foggy. It rains a lot in Newfoundland to be honest.

One interesting place we stopped at was Shoe Cove. There was a house built into the side of the cliff on the water. I have no idea how people would have gotten to it except by boat. Photos below.

  3. Well, you can’t miss the purple and yellow house even there were dark and gloomy skies and raining. It stands out. Fleur de Lys was picturesque – that darn rain! Shoe Cove Harbor was nice and the house built right into the cliff is different. I can’t imagine how people got into it either. Definitely by boat, but maybe using a fire escape-type ladder to climb up?

      1. They probably stayed put once they got there and used a pulley to pull up the supplies from a boat below … just thinking how they would manage. Well, you two always make the best of the rainy weather and dress for it, so that’s good, but it puts a damper (pardon the pun) on things, especially if you want to use your camera, but you probably use your phone I’m guessing.

      2. I use my phone but also my Nikon camera. I usually hide it under my coat and bring it out for quick shots. I’m not fond of rain but we don’t like to miss out and we are only there a short time. When we travel, we are usually prepared for all weather although we hope for good weather! I like taking photos of wildlife in the rain. It really makes their hair/fur pop !

      3. I’d think the cameras are probably sturdier than we think they are. You have to be prepared for anything when traveling … you go all that way and don’t want to sit inside the truck. Did you see a video of the young moose that fell into a snowy hole and was surrounded by snow up to her neck? Some snowmobilers rescued her. I’ll put the video in a separate comment in case you missed it. Her eyes – she was terrified and who could blame her?

  5. That purple house definitely makes a statement! 😄 Newfoundland looks so beautifully rugged, even with the rain and fog. La Scie sounds worth the second visit, and that cliffside house at Shoe Cove is wild… can’t imagine living there! Loving this East Coast adventure and can’t wait to read the next stop!

  6. Very interesting purple house. People in our city painted their house purple with pink trim. What beautiful pictures, even with the rain and fog they will still remind you of your trip there. So strange why anyone would put a house on the side of the cliff.
