Africa – Buffalo Springs National Reserve Kenya – Part One

We were up early and on to the next stop. It was about a 4 hour drive to Buffalo Springs National Reserve and our resort was called Sarova Shaba Lodge. This resort was quite something, some photos in another Blog post. But if you click the link above, you can see an aerial photo of all the cabins and the resort along a river.

Below are some photos I took along the way, from a moving Safari Jeep, through a window and with my cell phone.

We stopped at a place, the name escapes me, and it was a Women’s Collective where they did weaving and sold the items they made.

They showed us some cactus plants and other items that they use for dyes to get the different coloured wool to weave.

As we were getting close to our turn off, our driver, Major (our driver) received a radio message saying there was a leopard in a tree on the reserve. We were on the main highway so instead of heading straight and to the right to our resort, we took a left onto the reserve and we were able to find the leopard. Now you have to wait for the next Blog Post………..!

      1. This is true – you have a point there Susan. I guess I was thinking the animals you’d see would be more like a jungle-type safari situation, not walking along the side of the road or like the big camel in the Geico commercial (I hope you have that commercial in Canada).

      2. I follow a blogger who lives in Africa and she often posts about Zebras just walking around or in the street. Something fun to see. I’ll send you the commercial from YouTube by e-mail. It’s a little silly, but it was very popular when it came out.

    1. I hope she gets to go, I think it’s pretty safe and I think she would love it there! Yes they are and the fact they use plants and other items to make the different colour dyes was fascinating to me.
