Porto is a quiet town right across the river from Vila Nova de Gaia. We wandered around Porto for a bit and then took a boat ride down the river and after that, we walked across the bridge to Vila Nova de Gaia to try some Port !

We did a tour of Calem, a distillery that makes Port and we were also given a couple of drinks of Port to try …. and yes I do like Port. It was a unique experience.

We were able to taste test these ports
In their store, we noticed the light provided a convenient halo for me. Trust me, this is a fluke lol
At the end of the day, Clint and I left to find a bookstore, but not just any bookstore ! Livraria Lello is a bookstore that possibly gave JK Rowlins some inspiration for the Harry Potter books. It’s also very, very beautiful. You have to get tickets to go in the store and you should reserve early as it’s quite busy. We did not have tickets and you have to reserve them online but Clint talked nicely to the security guard at the door and he let us in after we paid cash for two tickets. He probably thought oh those two poor seniors from Canada can’t work the Internet lol

So many people !
These pictures do not do it justice

That was that for Porto and Gaia, we really enjoyed our time here and I would definitely go back to Porto and Gaia.
Later……………..

The towns are very unique and beautiful, Susan! I would really enjoy the boat ride. Thanks for sharing!

Porto – what a picturesque place to visit and sample some port as well. I liked the boat tour and the little town, especially that second photo with the cobblestone street and the vibrant flowers. Why, of course you deserve to have a halo over your head Susan! I’m probably one of the few people that have never read Harry Potter books nor seen a movie about Harry Potter, but that is some bookstore and you say it is more impressive in person – it is pretty impressive in your photos as well!

You could lose yourself in that place for sure. Others have told me that about the Harry Potter books/movies. I had previously thought it was just for kids.

What a beautiful bookstore, so unique! So you paid to get into the bookstore but did they actually sell books too? I assume they did but did you buy any books? I would have bought one just for a souvenir. Lol Everything about this post, the boat, flowers, streets, cafe and the taste testing of the Ports sounds like fun. Thanks for taking us along on your fantastic trip!

Yes tons of books were for sale but I didn’t buy any. I don’t think they had any in English ☹️
