Today we headed out on a tour to go to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market & Train Market. These are two of the places I really wanted to see as I had researched them prior to our trip so they were high on our list of things to do/see.
We took a boat down the canal into the market area and then we were able to walk on either side of the canal, they had bridges spaced out that you could cross. What a madhouse of people ! They sold just about everything you can think of and there were people in their boats who were selling items to people in other boats or on the walkways alongside the water. It was pretty fantastic to be honest. Above photo is an old street dog who really caught my eye. He looks very sad and lonely but I was not allowed to bring him home.
After we finished at the Floating Market which we really enjoyed, we headed to the Train Market. If you haven’t heard of this, it’s wild. There is a track for the train and shops on either side of the track. Where we sat to watch the train go by is so close you could literally reach out and touch the train but don’t do that!
The shops all pull their awnings back and move wares back when they hear the train coming. The train does about 19 kms a hour and travels through here about 8 times a day. As soon as the train passes, the shop keepers put their awnings back out. I took a video and you can see towards the end how close we are sitting to the train. We were lucky to find a place to sit up front at 20 Baht per person, well worth the money. It was a great day. VIDEO BELOW
We got back to our hotel and I forgot to mention they had a rooftop pool with a bar area so that’s where we would congregate with others at the end of the day and today was no different. Later on that evening, we headed out for a walk.

Walking the streets
So many food booths
We did not eat the street foods but we did eat at several restaurants
They do a lot of seafood and meats
The next day was our last day before we started our tour so we are headed to the Grand Palace and a few other places.
Later………….

I have seen the train market before on other videos, so amazing! I wonder though why the tracks aren’t moves elsewhere.

They must, I would like to see this in person since I’ve always fancied trains.😎

You couldn’t sneak that poor pooch into your purse Susan? These markets are pretty amazing to see – no wonder both were on your to-do list. The water was jam packed – how do they move and the train … literally it nearly brushed your kneecaps. Everything is so congested there, but something unique to see for sure.

Yes the boats are close. We only had a certain amount of time and we were worried if we got into a boat, we weren’t getting out in time ! It was more fun walking on either side of the canal and watching people anyways !

This looks like a great place to people watch and that would worry me too, just like getting my knees skinned up by the train. 🙂

I love all the color and fresh produce! I saw that train situation a while back on a travel show, or a similar one. That is something! 😲 Seems like what began as necessity has turned into a tourist attraction. Thank you for braving the close call and sharing. 👍🏻 Sweet pup looks like it needs a hug. A lovely weekend to you! 😊

Thank you Michele and I hope you had a great weekend too ! We went to a concert last night, a Beatles tribute band. Other than that, a quiet weekend.

How different and fun it must have been there. I would love to try the street food but I would be afraid of getting food poisoning. Lol
