Tanzania – The Serengeti – Part 3

Last post on the Serengeti as we will be moving on to Ngorongoro Crater! Below photo shows that, just like they do everywhere, they do controlled burns in Africa. Here is a pic of what it looks like and yet it doesn’t stop the wildlife from finding food or refuge. You can see them wandering around, still picking up some forms of food to eat.

Now for some more photos ….

Well that’s that for the Serengeti, we have one more stop and that is the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area and then we are heading home !

Thanks for coming by !

  1. How incredible that you visited the Serengeti! Memories to last! The hot air balloons surprised me. Fascinating and beautiful animals. Precious little Dik Dik. The bird on the hippo seemed a nuisance! Thank you for sharing your photos. Very special! 🙏🏻

    1. You are welcome! I loved the Serengeti and those little dik diks were so adorable and also very skittish. We didn’t do the hot air balloons but they certainly looked nice in the sky. The birds on the hippos are called Oxpeckers and apparently they clean the hippos and keep any wounds clean, a little creepy but I guess they serve a purpose !

      1. Fascinating bird/hippo relationship. I figured something like that, as nature is quite resourceful. Amazing, isn’t it! Thank you, I really enjoy your travel photos and your captions. Will share this trip at your local library?

  2. I think this was my favorite post on this trip so far Susan – all the animals and birds I saw as a kid on the “National Geographic” specials and in their magazines. The little Dik Dik looked like Bambi without the spots. The female Ostrich is so plain next to the male. The hippos were huge – OMG. I have seen them at the zoo but what a great shot of the eye and face and so big in the water. They are very mean and dangerous as they may look cumbersome, but that mouth and teeth. The Serval Cat and Cheetahs, such magnificent looking animals, the Secretary Bird so unusual. I don’t know which animal I liked best … hard to pick, maybe the Black-faced Monkey?

    1. I loved them all !! lol did you know the Secretary bird was so named, I was told, because they used his tail feathers as pens in the olden days. Yes hippos can be very dangerous. Thanks for liking this post, I think it’s one of my favourites too. 🙂

      1. No, I didn’t know that about the Secretary Bird – very interesting. I would have thought the hippos were rocks in the water too. This post had the most animals/birds I could remember seeing over the years … I may have forgotten the hyena and warthog in my prior comment. 🙂
