I have been to fish markets before, in many different countries but this one was the best. This is the Jagalchi Fish Market. I didn’t know there were so many different types of fish and whatever else lives in the ocean, that you could catch and eat. The photo above is a crab and I have never seen a crab that big! We have crabs in Canada, our country does have a fishing industry on both coasts, cod, lobster, scallops, crab etc and I have eaten crab in the past but this one was so HUGE. And no it wasn’t AI generated lol. I don’t really eat seafood or fish now so when our group went to a seafood restaurant to have lunch, Clint and I and another lady chose to go elsewhere. One reason I did not want to go was because one of the “specialties” was to be served a live octopus. And then you eat it………Nope that’s cruel to me and how can anyone do that? But they did….

Before we left Busan, we headed to Gamcheon Cultural Village. They call it the Machu Picchu of Korea. During the Korean War, refugees settled here and cultivated the mountainside to live and work as they had nowhere else to go. In 2209, they decorated the village to make it into a leading tourist attraction and it is that for sure. And I got to try Frozen Beer, which was not as good as it sounds. It was beer in the bottom and they they added this weird foam on the top and it didn’t taste like beer foam. However, I like to try different things, you know when in Rome……….except for the live octopus, wasn’t trying that!

After Busan, we went back to Seoul for a couple of days and then we started out trip to Japan…..

funny thing, I was just thinking about getting some salmon for dinner tonight, and then just heading out the door , I quickly read about your visit to a fish market. I guess I am meant to have fish for dinner tonight, but not crab.

I do like salmon, I’m not fond of other fish but salmon I like, particularly on the BBQ on a cedar plank with a bit of maple syrup on it !

I don’t mind seafood, but tamer looking than this! The crab – it looked like some creature from a movie! Even the shrimp (I think) didn’t look real with all the colors. I’m with you, how cruel to eat the octopus alive … no thank you! Years ago, my aunt married a Maltese guy. They weren’t together long as she didn’t like to cook and he only knew how to cook seafood. They lived upstairs from my grandmother who said “my house smells like fish all the time … the fish goes or he goes!” Anyway, he had made octopus stew and gave me some, didn’t say what it was. It was hot and spicy and I poked around the dish trying to figure out what was in it … then I saw the suckers – ugh. Frozen beer was different … and you two like tasting beer in different countries. Oh well.
