Eastern Canada, Here we Come – Cornerbrook, Newfoundland -2025

Well here we are in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland and above photo is of another campground aka Big Field that we stayed at. Our trailer is the one in the middle with no truck in front of it. But Kinsman RV Park suited our purpose and was only $35 a night. We aren’t particularly fussy.

We did a couple of things while here for 2 nights. We found two breweries to visit, Boomstick and Bootleg Brew Co. as well as a great restaurant serving Vietnamese food. We also went to the Railway Society of Newfoundland Museum and the Captain James Cook Lookout.

  2. Cox Cove looks picturesque. Trum is cute sitting there on the locomotive Engine 583. The train’s galley looked big. My father was raised by an aunt and uncle in his native Germany and that uncle made his living as a chef on a train his entire working years. He called himself a “chef” – wherever the train rain in Germany, it was a long enough ride to provide multiple meals while enroute and returning. I remember learning about Captain Cook while still in school in Canada.

    1. Newfoundland is very picturesque. I can’t believe the price of an entire meal was 1.25. those were the days, I can’t believe how much the cost of groceries now are. I have never been on a train to have a meal. I have taken Go train in Toronto but that’s it.

      1. It looked very pretty, all the water and harbor areas. I’ve been on a couple of trains years ago, but can’t remember what they served us. Both times were in tour groups and I’m wondering if the hotel provided a box lunch for us to take along since our meals were included in the tour. Yes, $1.25 is a bargain – it’s ridiculous the cost of everything and you used to be able to do a big shopping for the same price as you now carry just a few bags in the house and that’s it.

      2. I can’t believe the price of food now. I never used to notice but the last year or so, I have seen such a huge increase in costs. I’m not sure how some families can get by to be honest.

      3. I don’t understand it either Susan and I just heard on the news it is exactly one year since the tariffs began, so a year with these high prices. Our gas prices have gone up 80 cents per gallon since the war began. I don’t drive that much (and not really all that much in the warmer months to be honest), but still ….

      4. Yes our gas prices are up too. About a 1.50 a litre and approximately 4 litres per gallon so I guess about 6$ a gallon. ☹️ we really plan our days now, if we have an appointment, we make sure to do errands the same day. No unnecessary driving.

      5. That’s way more than us … I think last I heard it was $3.50/gallon – that was this morning. Hopefully before you hit the road hauling the big camper, the prices go down. I do that too – make one errand day so I don’t waste a walking or going-out-with-the-camera-day.

  5. Wow that Lego brewery is amazing! If only meals still cost $1.25, wishful thinking! Love Pho, we have a couple Vietnamese restaurants where I live and I love them. Fascinating facts about the railway, it’s hard to phantom putting tracks in that long ago.

    1. Yes I always liked Lego so I really liked that brewery. My son loved Lego when he was a kid and I still have boxes of it stored in my basement ! We like Vietnamese food, all Asian food really.
