Eastern Canada, Here we Come – Trois Riviere, Quebec -2025 – Part 1

I love this city. Trois Riviere is definitely worth spending a couple of days in this area. The photo above is a statue? I’m not really sure but anyways it is in the front lawn of the Pop Museum which showcases popular culture, examining it’s evolution. When we went, there were 7 exhibits, 5 upstairs and 2 downstairs. The exhibits included a toy exhibit, prison exhibit, Quebec history exhibit and more. It was a lot of fun going through this museum.

We had purchased tickets to go to the old prison and it included the Pop Museum. I think we paid $28 each for entrance to both places and parking was $10. We were able to find a good parking lot and could walk to both places as well as a couple of other spots.

They only do one English tour of the Old Prison at 12:15 most days and it takes about 90 minutes. And if you are wondering what the name of the prison is, it’s literally the Old Prison or en francais…Vieille Prison de Trois Rivieres. Our guide was very good and he told us that right up until the prison closed in 1986, the prisoners had to use buckets in their cells as they did not have toilets. The prison was shut down for unsanitary conditions. Also, it was supposed to hold about 40 people but upwards of 100 prisoners were housed here. Crime doesn’t pay……….

A couple of miscellaneous photos. First is our campground, our trailer is the only one there. And crikey! It’s another field at Lac Saint-Michel campground.

Archibald’s was a restaurant we went to and they had a terrific Shepherd’s Pie. Then at some point, we walked to Temps en Pint brewery. They had a really quaint outdoor eating area. We didn’t care for their beer, we always split a taster tray or sampler tray. So for those wondering, there is maybe 16 ounces of beer total for two people. It’s usually 4 tiny glasses with 4 ounces in each but that way we get to try different ones.

Marianna’s Distillery was a lovely spot to relax. We tried a taster tray of their liquors; chocolate rum, spicy rum, maple rum and a gin. They had comfortable chairs and as we had done a lot of walking that day, it was nice to just relax.

The last photos are at La Forge du Malt Brewery, probably my favourite brewery on this entire trip. They had an Old School IPA which was right up my alley and Clint liked the stout aged in Bourbon barrels.

One more post ! And we are still in Trois Riviere………

    1. I love old buildings too, John! And the prison was very cool and very interesting. No, it’s not the moose that’s a real moose that I took a photo of a year or so ago. I don’t know what happened to the picture I had up there. It was there when I saved my post and now it’s gone I will have to see what happened to it. It was a really cute statue in the front of the museum☹️

  2. Lots to see in this post! I like those colorful explorers in the canoe out front and definitely the Pop Museum with its different exhibits is something I’d enjoy seeing. I didn’t know Canadians invented Crocs, nor peanut butter. I remember seeing that jar with the bear on it at my grandmother’s house years ago. Funny about an accordion museum; is accordion-playing more popular in Quebec than anywhere else (but Germany)? I took accordion lessons for three years while we lived in Canada (age 7 to age 10), but when we moved to the U.S. there were no accordion teachers to be had, so it sits in the basement in its case collecting dust. The prison tour looks fun too – I like the prisoner. 🙂 The prisons seem to have had a diverse diet and big portions considering they were sitting around most of the time. La Forge Brewery had some fun decor didn’t it?

    1. I loved that Pop museum, it was a lot of fun. I was surprised about the accordion part, I never would have thought it would be popular. I learn something new about you every week! I didn’t know you took accordion lessons! Clint was a pretty good prisoner! Yes that brewery was terrific and we had a great time talking to the guy that worked there. It was a unique spot

      1. The Pop museum exhibits all looked fun to me too. Yes, I am full of surprises. 🙂 I had a small red “starter” 32-base accordion at age seven, then graduated to a full-size 120-base accordion about a year later. It is not the most-graceful instrument. Perhaps my German father thought I could join an oom-pah band? Everyone who ever plays/played the accordion is always asked “Do you know how to play Lady of Spain? You got to be captain of that boat a few days earlier and Clint got to be a prisoner – hmm.

      2. Yes, you have to really work those bellows and it is a heavy instrument, especially if you’re not an adult. Yep, a polka is exactly what I think of too. When we moved here my parents joined the Germania Club. My mother and I spoke no German and they were only Germans that attended. I spent a few New Year’s Eves as a preteen going there.
