Our first tour, WWI and WW2 Battlefields tour is over now. We were in Paris, on our own, for about 10 days until we started our Best of France tour. Clint and I did quite a lot while we were in Paris on our own, we went pretty well non stop all day every day. Clint and I always get up early and we can cover a lot of ground when it’s just the two of us. We usually don’t stop until the end of the day when it’s “beer”tail hour. I want to mention again, a lot of these spots you have to reserve and so we got tickets for a lot of these places ahead of time, some we even purchased before we left Canada.
I also want to say, it was pretty easy to get around Paris. We used the Metro a lot, including subways and buses. We also did a lot of walking because we like to walk a lot !
The lineup to the Eiffel Tower was pretty busy, we took an elevator to the top and then an elevator down, although you could walk up and down but we chose not to. A French engineer named Gustave Eiffel suggested building a high tower to be the highlight of the 1889 Universal Exhibition World Fair. The Eiffel Tower was used as a weather station and radio/television antennae until of course, it became a popular tourist destination.

We also went to Montparnasse Tower Observatory. Another elevator and up to the top we went. This tower is 210 metres high and it gives an excellent view of the city and not as many people as at the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower is 330 metres high. As I was doing this post, I read that the Montparnasse Tower is going to be closed for major renovations, for several months. I’m glad we saw it when we did.

We had to get tickets ahead of time for Notre Dame. They still had scaffolding on parts of it as it was still under repair. There was a huge lineup, even with tickets, to get in but it didn’t take very long. You could also line up in a no ticket lineup but it, of course, took a much longer time to get inside.

Wow man, excellent photos and I am so glad that they are rebuilding that ancient church’! Such a beautiful city. I love the mention of the broadcasting done from the Eiffel Tower. Being a ham radio licensee, that stuff is fascinating!
