Africa – On the Way to Mweiga Hill, Nyeri, Kenya – Part One

We left Nairobi and our next stop is a resort called Aberdare Country Club in Nyeri, Kenya. We were only staying here one night and it was not a long drive to get there. We were in a jeep with our driver, Major Minor, Clara and Brietta (from Vancouver) and our Tour Director, Wallace. We stopped at a gift shop on the side of the road (washroom break). It was a nice drive and so fascinating to be in another country and see the countryside and how people live. The sign above was located at the gift shop/coffee shop.

I am going to post a bunch of photos that I took of the countryside as we drove. Except for photos of me, Clint took those ones ! Next Post will be about the resort and all the cool animals we saw there! Stay tuned………

This is so different than what we are used to but I so enjoyed everything I saw and everyone I spoke to. Next post………….Giraffes !

  4. I am excited for the giraffes. 🙂 It is interesting to see the countryside as opposed to the “jungle” or “safari-type” landscape you would typically be thinking was the main part of the tour. As for the bathroom break – wow. It is a little rough with the sink – I agree. I hope the bathroom facilities were not too unusual. I was on a Greece one-week land tour with a one-week cruise to Greek Islands, Egypt and Turkey as ports of call. In Istanbul, Turkey, we were warned not to drink the water while off the ship, but we could drink juice (if was a very warm day and there was a lot of walking). We were also forewarned about the “Turkish Toilets” which were cement stalls and in the stall were two footprints where you placed your feet, toilet in the middle. We were shown a picture before leaving the ship. I held off drinking until I knew it was almost time to head back to the ship. 🙂

    1. Yes Italy was like that too, holes in the floor! Not everywhere of course. We were lucky in Africa, our safari jeep had a big bottle of good water we could drink, we just filled up our own bottles. We are going to Istanbul next year! I’ll remember that about the water.

It was kind of a shock seeing the holes in the floor – the modern Turkish toilets are more the porcelain variety – that’s what I understand when I mentioned it to a person who traveled to that part of the country. It might be okay now – that was in 1981, but it was a poor area where we visited. I liked Turkey – we visited Kusadasi, which was amazing!
