Africa – Aberdare National Park – The Ark Hotel, Part Two

This place was such a great spot and the Lodge itself was very interesting. You could not leave the hotel at all, you had to stay inside. The only time you could leave was, well when you were leaving……..OR you could walk along the boardwalk at 5 pm and see them feed the birds. We did head out there to see that but they weren’t there very long as the baboons came and chased them all away!

We really enjoyed our time here. We could even see part of the watering hole from our bedroom window. There were lots of animals coming here, Cape Buffalo, elephants, Black Rhino, baboons, wart hogs, ducks, other water fowl and birds, and many more. You will notice birds on the Cape Buffalo, they are Oxpecker birds and they eat bugs and ticks off of the Buffalo. Now for some animal pics !

We spent only one night here but it was great, on to the next place tomorrow !

  1. Wow – what a great group of photos you have here Susan. I think this is my favorite Africa post so far. I can’t think of the name of those birds on the Cape Buffalo – they have a symbiotic relationship and I think get rid of ticks or some insect that bothers the Buffalo, but is good to eat.

      1. I couldn’t remember their names – yes, that is them! I follow a woman who writes about African animals and she shows those birds on different animals. Yes, very cool and I didn’t know they went on giraffes too.
