Africa – One the Way Back to Nairobi

We left Masai Mara and were on our way to Amboseli National Park, which is about a 4 1/2 hour drive to Nairobi, we stopped there for one night at the same hotel we started from. It’s a further 4 hour drive to Amboseli and we had other plans for that day so a great idea to break up the trip.

It was a few hours drive to get there but we saw some interesting things along the way. We drove on a road that was built by Italian POWs in WWII and we also passed a Catholic Church that they had built.

We also stopped at a viewpoint for the Great Rift Valley which was pretty spectacular.

We also drove part of this road where they have hijackers. The road is very steep and trucks have to drive quite slow so these hijackers like to jump on trucks as they drive past and steal the food. Sometimes they will sit on the trucks and throw cabbages and other fruits/vegetables off the truck to their families waiting alongside the road. I thought it was quite funny. Here they are…..Oh, and No I did not get a photo of them on any trucks but I wish I had!

A few photos along the way.

Then we kept driving until we hit the Giraffe Sanctuary and Karen Blixen’s house, that’s the next post ! See you then….

  1. The houses and towns are colorful and interesting. Very clever and it’s funny you have this post about them waiting for food to be thrown from the truck as I just saw a short video on Twitter/X the other day where some elephants saw a truck laden with sugar cane coming down the road and the elephants all walked over to the truck and helped themselves to a stalk of sugar cane. 🙂
