Algonquin Park May 2023 – Pine Martens, Foxes and Hawks, Oh My!

It’s been a while since I have seen a fox but we saw this guy (above) twice in the same day, early morning and then later in the day. He was pretty cute! We stopped our truck and kept our distance but you could tell he was used to people. I am pretty confident people have been feeding them, in fact a car stopped ahead of us and a woman got out and knelt down with something in her hand as he came towards her. I can’t be certain what she had or what she was doing as we were well behind her. She then left and I got back in our truck and shut the door. He trotted down towards the truck and the last photo is one of him sitting outside the truck and I took the photo out of the window. So yeah I’m pretty sure people are feeding/baiting. This happened to a fox family that we used to see and photograph a few years ago. Click this link to read my post about that family and the tragedy that affected their little family.

The Old Fox Dies

We were also fortunate enough to see a little Pine Marten a few times. We only saw one but one is enough!

We did spot one hawk just outside the park, a Red Tailed Hawk

So that’s that for today……………..Trying to work on some more posts and go through some more photos. We were away again and just got back a couple of days ago. Always something to do!

Take care……………

  1. The red fox is so beautiful – I hope to see one some day. At the Metroparks they don’t allow feeding of any animals, even a squirrel (eye roll here), but one morning I got there very early and a car stopped and dumped a bucket of corn on the side of the road and sped off … a few deer came over to nibble it, so I take it he is a regular visitor and they look for him. I hate that people bait for pics too because you know some ill will eventually will come to this fox or its family/kits, etc., especially that close to the highway. The Pine Marten is also sweet … still never have seen one of them. I wanted to read what happened to your fox family and the link did not work unfortunately. Hope you post it later or update the post.

    1. Oh no I’ll have to look into that link. Also on the right side of my home page is a search box. If you type in foxes or fox family it should come up😊 I like feeding birds and squirrels.
