South East Asia – Hanoi, Vietnam – 2024 – Part 16

I took the above photo out of the vehicle window, I really wanted to know the story behind this. I’m sure that dog can’t be too comfortable.

So 28 February last year, we flew to Hanoi, Vietnam from Vientiane, about a 45 minute flight.

To start the day, we went to Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum and walked the grounds. We had to wait in a huge lineup go walk past his Ho Chi Minh’s body. No photos were allowed inside the building. So sorry but no “dead” body pics today.

We also signed up for a Foodie Tour which was pretty awesome. We went upstairs at a little restaurant and we had BBQ pork soup, then off to get a Banh Mi sandwich, next was fried pancakes with beef inside which we had to roll in rice paper with lettuce and sauce. Next was ice cream on sticky rice, I do not enjoy sticky rice but the bakd coconut ice cream was pretty good. Off to a coffee shop where they showed us how they make Egg coffee. I did not care for the Egg Coffee but our guide went and brought us back beer which I did care for !

Last but not least that day, we went to a Water Puppet theatre and watched a puppet show, it was really cute. Below the water puppet photos are some random photos I took while walking around the city. I should mention the streets are dangerous from traffic and motorcycles, you have to be quick to get off or across the roads !

Tomorrow we are off to spend a night on a boat on Ha Long Bay!

  1. Wonderful photos, such a different life than Westerners live. I would lose weight as there doesn’t seem to be much to eat. I have seen photos of that bay, it is so beautiful! You guys are lucky to have been there! ❤️

  2. The guy with the dog on the motor bike was bundled up yet was in house slippers and socks … how did the dog not fall off? I know I would not want to eat anything in that picture that you said you would not either – you know, people are probably healthy as they’re used to it, but we’re so used to having things refrigerated and room temperature or in the heat would worry me. The egg coffee may not be for me either. At least they are heating up the eggs but I’d think maybe they were raw, but when I was a kid I remember my mom making me egg nog and they weren’t cooked eggs – as a kid who thinks of this stuff?
