Avignon, Monaco and the French Riviera – May 2025

We stopped in Avignon (population approximately 92,000) for a walk around the town before heading to Monaco.

Above photo is the Papal Palace , one of the largest and most important medieval Gothic buildings in Europe. Isn’t the architecture wonderful?

We were not in Avignon very long and then to Monaco (population approximately 39,000). We stayed in a hotel on the French Riviera for the night so we were able to see a few things in this area. We also saw the road where the famous Grand Prix car race is held because we drove on it ! I took photos out of the bus window.

So next post we will still be in the French Riviera……….I can’ believe it was almost a year ago we were there! Time flies….

  1. Such a beautiful place! Monaco has always fascinated me, I’d love to walk there. Imagine the costs of living there! I would be much more interested in the many kinds of boats and yachts there than any car race. It’s very sad how the Princess died. 🙏🏻

  2. I liked Avignon and also Monaco – what beautiful places and likewise the church that Prince Ranier and Grace Kelly were married in. We just had the Detroit Grand Prix here this past weekend. They used to race in the Downtown Detroit business district, then moved the race to Belle Isle, then four years ago they moved it back to the streets. It is exciting to watch. We went on Free Prix Day the first year – after that most offices closed on the Friday at mid-day when the drivers began practicing as it was quite loud.

    1. I would have liked to have spent more time in those places, but when you are on a tour group, you kind of do what they do. But they were beautiful spots and places I had always heard about and read about. I’m glad we saw them

      1. They were still memorable, even seeing them with limited time. Everything about those towns was so perfect and picturesque and it looks like you had good weather from seeing the photos.
