Located on Dongbaekseom Island is Nurimaru APEC House, the venue for the 2005 APEC Summit. (Asia Pacific Economic Corporation) Now it’s used as a conference centre and Memorial Hall. It was a beautiful building, inside and out. There were some great views from here and nice trails to walk around the area.
We went to the Bulguksa Temple representing Buddhist culture. The temple was build in 514-540 and later rebuilt in 751, then it caught fire during a war which lasted from 1592-1598. The temple has undergone continuous restorations since 1920. It was a large area, lots of buildings to see and trails to walk. It was a pleasant spot.

Haedong Yonggungsa Temple was set high on the rocks right by the water and first built in 1376. It fascinates me how these buildings withstand time, environment, war etc.

I was just thinking how vibrant and colorful those lanterns were when you wrote how everything was so colorful. I admit I would not partake in the communal cups either – did anyone from your travel group try them out?
