We drove to a Chinese temple complex called SamPooKong in the city of Semarang. It was a beautiful spot and the oldest Chinese origin place of whorship in the city. It’s a mix of Chinese and Javanese design and honours the Chinese Muslin explorer Admiral Zheng He. The different temples consist of one for historical and spiritual remembrance, one for the shrine of Admiral Zheng He, one dedicated to the Earth God, a shrine honouring Zheng He’s helmsman and a shrine dedicated to Zheng He’s ship.
We also went to the 1,000 doors complex or Lawang Sewu and is one of the most iconic and impressive historical landmarks in Semarang. The name translates from Javanese as “Thousand Doors,” because it has a vast number of door and window openings. It was built in the early 20th century and served as the headquarters of the Dutch East Indies Railway company. We were there later in the day and I love the shots I got of the buildings at dusk.
We went to a nice restaurant for lunch but I can’t remember the name. A couple of the guys ordered fish and well…….I wouldn’t have eaten it ! Here are some photos of our time in Semarang and a couple on the way into Semarang

Semarang was a beautiful city, population 2.21 million people. We enjoyed our time here and now we are off to Dieng Plateau.

The area has beautiful countryside, and that Dutch East Indies building is beautiful. You can see words on buildings that reflect the Dutch presence. A very hard pass for me too on the fish, guys. Your header image is so cool with the smiling bull moose! 🇨🇦

The temple was really something, very colorful and so ornate looking inside. I think I would have had to carry a few boxes of granola bars on this trip because the two pictures of the fish would have been a hard pass for me as well!
