This past Saturday morning we headed to Stoco Lake Lodge in Tweed, Ontario to watch dog sled races. We didn’t get there early enough because I like to watch the Skijoring but it was already over with before we got there. We did watch some races and stayed until they broke for lunch. Then we left…… The races were supposed to be Sunday as well but they cancelled them due to poor quality of snow and dangers to the dogs.
A lone sled Starting Line Another contestant No huskies here There were a lot of women competing which was terrific to see Stoco Lake and the people are at the starting line I just thought this rock in the middle of the lake was pretty neat, we were standing on the frozen lake to take photos rounding the corner, hopefully not straight into me Off from the starting line I was trying to perfectly place the dog sled teams in front of this rock, this was try number 17 lol I do love that rock apparently You can see the two other teams in behind this guy This dog though…………….his ears Coming up to the finish line Just a shot of the Lodge and the mucky road
How about a few more? We aren’t bored yet are we?
Get out of our way !!! Get Out we say ! Get ready for the races This guy left his dogs at home………. blah
Coming up to the finish line And they are Done!
We went into Finn’s Pub in the Lodge and had a break which involved a beer. Really nice pub, we didn’t have any food so I can’t say what that is like.
We left the races and headed to Tweed for lunch.
Downtown Tweed Some murals on one of the buildings downtown Self explanatory ! Inside the bakery which was just down from the restaurant The restaurant we had lunch at, the name escapes me
We also stopped to photograph Chisholms Mill that morning, which in retrospect I guess I should have started with !
And so that was our day, finishing with a lovely evening at the Old Church Theatre to see Jerry Leger perform………..
See you soon……..
So many beautiful photos! That rock must be a hazard to navigation when the ice goes away. Nice dogs but where are the snowmobiles? ❤️🇨🇦

Fantastic photos! Would be amazing to see in person – your photos capture so much it is like being there. Reminds me of my time in Fairbanks. The snow not the dogs. 😆

Thanks Michele ! I didn’t know you lived in Alaska, we took a trip to Alaska and the Yukon a few years ago. Wonderful places !

Thank you, I love your visual escapes. I didn’t live in AK, but I did spend several weeks there during the winter, many moons ago. I would love to visit again. Maybe during the summer months. 😁

That looks like so much fun Susan. We have dog sled races in northern Michigan, but way up in the Upper Peninsula. I was wondering why no huskies in the first photos, but saw them later on – that one dog looked like a pit bull (the one in the rear). You always pick the quaintest places to try the beer or food – in this case no food and you said you forgot the name – that’s twice now. 🙂

Yes I always associate huskies with sledding but there were more of other breeds there. Haha maybe I should even write info about my day trips down! lol then I’ll remember 🙂

It’s hard to remember everything – I was teasing you as you had just told me you forgot to write stuff down. We had crummy weather for two mornings, so I was sorting through 2022 pics … sometimes I went to 2-3 places in one day … I remembered some things as I sorted thru those pics which I later saw were not in my notes I write the same night I took the walk(s).

Me too – I walk down the hall or to the basement and can’t always remember why I went there. I have to return to where I started to remember!
