Canada Geese are everywhere….. we saw them in here in Amsterdam, we also saw them in Cambodia and several other countries. But don’t worry, we still have a ton of them in Canada lol.
So we spent a week in Amsterdam, we were told the city has 1 million people and over one million bicycles. We also went from about 35 Celsius down to 12 Celsius. Istanbul was beautiful and hot, Amsterdam damp and chilly. Good thing we bring a lot of layers when we travel.
Just as a piece of information, lots of the countries/cities we travel to, you must reserve spots to go into attractions/museums. Before we left Canada we had booked the Anne Frank House, RijksMuseum and Heineken experience. It poured rain all day the day we went to the RijksMuseum but it was worth it. We were there almost 3 hours wandering around looking at all the paintings and other art. I wanted to got to the Van Gogh museum and for some reason, we didn’t book it and of course it was sold out even past the day we left so we didn’t get in.
Below are some photos of the RijksMuseum

I was surprised at the Anne Frank house, I had a small house pictured in my head. It WAS a small house but it was ensconced in this huge modern building. Everyone was so very quiet as we walked through. It was unbelievable that so many people were hidden in these small spaces for such a long time. No photos were allowed but I have a photo of the outside and a photo of myself with a statue of Anne Frank. I remember as a kid in school learning about Anne Frank, she was a hero to a lot of young girls, back then anyways.

From a very solemn and sobering tour of Anne Franks house, we headed to our Heineken Brewery tour which I highly recommend. It also included a boat ride on the canals.

Amsterdam seems very unique to me. I like the buildings right on the canals. I have seen some pictures of buildings lit up and reflecting on the canal waters and it was very pretty. The beer tour looks fun and I wondered why you and Clint had a green glow in your picture together having a beer, then I saw the green bottles from the ceiling – so they had them in there too I guess.

There are sooo many cyclists there, I wanted to rent a bike but honestly I was a bit fearful lol

I would be fearful too. I saw a bicycle accident just after it happened a few days ago. Cyclist was on his back, but with one knee bent up, so I guess he was okay. There must have been six or seven police vehicles and an EMS vehicle.

We bike a lot in Canada and I’m always very watchful what’s going on around me. I prefer bike trails instead of in cities/towns

Yes, I agree – they are much safer.

Your photos are outstanding and thank you so much for bringing me back to Amsterdam. I loved my time there and hope to return because there is so much to see and do! I enjoyed the RijksMuseum but did not make it to Anne Frank’s house or that brewery. Cheers! 🍻

What a beautiful place. I can’t imagine driving around and watching out for all those bikes. Every one of the buildings are so beautiful. The old bathroom made me happy for toilets. I LOVE the beer bottles in the ceiling.
