We stopped at the Thiepval museum and memorial. It’s a memorial that honours the over 72,000 missing British and South African men who died with no known graves. (WWI)

On to Ocean Villas, real name Auchonvillers but the British coined it Ocean Villas. Original WWI trenches have been excavated and restored.

Walking the trenches
We spent that evening in the city of Amiens (population approximately 137,000) and had a lovely evening wandering around.

Along the roadside, I love the poppies mixed in with other flowers
Notre Dame (Amiens) Cathedral
Inside the Cathedral
Town Square

River runs through the town, much like where I live
Next stop….. we travel south through Normandy and to the City of Rouen and the City of Caen.

some of those trenches don’t look deep enough to protect a man walking.
What’s with the statue of the guy in the river?

I always love the European architecture, and the large field is so beautiful! The guy standing in the river is different.

Interesting you have a river running through your town – but likely no man standing in the river. You saw a lot of trenches in these battlefields in your travels!
